The season:
Again a challenging “wet” vintage! A fairly mild mild season from spring to summer. Rain over flowering time brought us a reduced fruit set. But there were still enough grapes to remove excessive fruits (green harvest). Though there was much rain all over, the problems generated by fungal infestation were less.
The harvest:
Harvest time started with a cold and rainy late summer. We had no pressure with picking and the fruits enjoyed a long hang-time on the vines. A comparatively high acidity level is the best basis for a “cool-climate” vintage.
Generally the wines of 2001 have a present acidity combined with a wonderful minerality and aging potential.
