Müller-Thurgau, or Rivaner, is named after Professor Dr. Hermann Müller from Thugau/Switzerland, created in 1982. Till today grape sciences only can assume which varieties Professor Thurgau used for the rearing. The mother of the plant is Riesling, the father Gutedel or Madeleine Royal.
Years ago Müller-Thurgau had the reputation to be a off-grade “bulk wine”. The vine has not much demands, it is a high-crop variety and grows in each vineyard site and is seen all over Germany. Nowadays the wine becomes more and more popular. The wine tastes a bit floral paired with a moderate acidity.
